BREAKING: World’s No.1 And Her Mother, Swept Pickleball Championships. Shine On

Anna Leigh Waters and Mother Sweep Doubles Titles at US Open Pickleball Championships

In a display of sheer dominance, 17-year-old Anna Leigh Waters, the world’s No. 1 female pickleball player, and her mother, Leigh Waters, swept their way to victory at the US Open Pickleball Championships in Naples.

Despite uncertainties stemming from Leigh’s recent ACL rehabilitation, the Waters duo proved unstoppable, clinching victories in both mixed doubles with JW Johnson and female doubles together.

Reflecting on their remarkable achievement, Anna Leigh expressed gratitude for the opportunity to compete alongside her mother, emphasizing the emotional significance of their win. “Winning with my mom, it’s something we didn’t know we’d ever get to do,” Anna Leigh remarked. “Being here, on this court, getting to feel what this feels like, especially after all we’ve been through as a family together… She’s guided me into the person I am today.”

Their journey to the top was not without its challenges. Facing formidable opponents Simone Jardim and Allison Harris in the women’s pro doubles finals, the Waters duo maintained composure and secured an 11-5 victory in both sets, showcasing their unwavering determination and skill.

Simultaneously, in the mixed doubles category, Anna Leigh and JW Johnson demonstrated their prowess, securing a decisive victory over Andrei Daescu and Megan Fudge with an 11-2, 11-3 scoreline. Despite an early setback, the duo rallied back with an impressive 8-0 run to seal the match in just 25 minutes.

The significance of their triumph was not lost on their competitors. Simone Jardim, acknowledging Anna Leigh’s potential, praised the young player’s talent and emphasized the importance of guidance from her mother in navigating the challenges of professional competition.

For Johnson, the victory marked a milestone in his career, reflecting on his journey from being a spectator to a champion. “It’s incredible,” he remarked. “I remember watching this tournament when I was a 3.5 player, working my way up through the rankings. I was a fan on Saturdays, watching the Mintos.”

The Waters duo’s remarkable performance cements their status as forces to be reckoned with in the world of pickleball, leaving spectators and competitors alike in awe of their skill, determination, and unwavering bond both on and off the court.
