Oscar Tshiebwe Named NBA G League Rookie of the Year
Oscar Tshiebwe, a first-year player for the Indiana Pacers, has made a significant impact in the NBA G League, earning the title of Rookie of the Year for the 2023-2024 season. Tshiebwe, who joined the Pacers on a two-way contract, showcased his talents primarily with the Indiana Mad Ants, where he posted outstanding statistics.
During his G League tenure, Tshiebwe averaged 16.4 points and 16.2 rebounds per game, setting a new league record for rebounds per game. His performances included a remarkable debut where he scored 33 points and grabbed 22 rebounds. Throughout 33 games, he amassed 532 total rebounds, with 201 of those being offensive boards, another record for the team
Tshiebwe’s achievements did not go unnoticed during the All-Star Weekend in Indianapolis, where he participated in both the G League Up Next game and the NBA Rising Stars event, further cementing his status as a rising star in professional basketball.
Looking ahead, Tshiebwe’s current two-way contract with the Pacers only covers this season, making him eligible for restricted free agency this summer. The Pacers will need to negotiate a new contract to retain him for future seasons.
With his dominant performance in the G League and his potential to grow in the NBA, Oscar Tshiebwe’s future looks promising as he transitions from a standout in the developmental league to a key player for the Pacers.
