Jeff Gordon Praises Alex Bowman’s Gritty Chicago Win, Secures Playoff Spot for Hendrick Motorsports
In a thrilling turn of events at the Chicago street race, Alex Bowman clinched a playoff spot with a remarkable victory, securing his place in the NASCAR Cup Series playoffs for the first time since 2022. This win at The Grand Park 165 marks a significant milestone in Bowman’s eighth season with Hendrick Motorsports, having achieved four top-5 finishes and six top-10 finishes in the first 19 starts of the season.
Jeff Gordon, Vice Chairman of Hendrick Motorsports, couldn’t hide his pride and admiration for Bowman’s performance. In the post-race interview, Gordon highlighted the hard work and perseverance of the entire Hendrick team, attributing Bowman’s success to their collective efforts.
“We pride ourselves on how we share information and try to keep all our teams at the top. Those other three had gotten off to a great start, and the 48 was just trying to find their stride, getting some momentum going. So, they’ve been working hard. It’s not from a lack of effort. I think this takes a lot of weight off their shoulders—all four now in the playoffs. That’s huge for us in motorsports,” Gordon stated.
Bowman’s victory is especially significant given the challenging conditions in Chicago. The race was demanding, but Bowman’s skill and determination shone through, showcasing his prowess on a road course. Gordon praised Bowman’s strategic decision-making, particularly commending crew chief Blake’s crucial call to stay out towards the end of the race.
“Tough for these drivers on track, and Alex did an amazing job. All week long, they had good speed and kept themselves in the right spot. Blake made an amazing call there at the end to stay out and pull it off. So, couldn’t be more proud,” Gordon said.
With all four Hendrick Motorsports drivers now in the playoffs, the team’s collaborative spirit and relentless drive are evident. Gordon emphasized that Bowman’s win is a testament to the team’s hard work and a significant boost for the No. 48 team.
“They’ve been working hard; it’s not for a lack of effort. This is just a great boost for the No. 48 team,” Gordon added.
As the NASCAR Cup Series heads into the playoff season, Alex Bowman’s victory in Chicago stands as a pivotal moment for Hendrick Motorsports, highlighting their dedication and teamwork in one of the most competitive seasons to date.
