Lawsuit Against Ryan Newman Withdrawn
The lawsuit filed by Sam Pierce Chevrolet against NASCAR driver Ryan Newman for damages to a sprint car during the 2022 Little 500 has been withdrawn.
The lawsuit, originally filed in Delaware Circuit Court Division 5 by attorney Zaki Ali, sought payment from Newman for a damaged race car under claims of breach of verbal contract and negligence. According to the suit, Newman verbally agreed to return the rented sprint car in race-ready condition and cover any damages incurred during the event at Anderson Speedway. The car was damaged when Newman hit the outside retaining wall during the race, and he allegedly left it in the Sam Pierce pit area without arranging for repairs.
Attorney Ali stated that efforts to collect for the repairs had previously been unsuccessful. “The bottom line is we wanted Ryan Newman to be a man of his word and make this thing right,” Ali said. “We wanted Ryan Newman to repair the vehicle. You break it, you fix it.”
However, in a turn of events, both parties have reached an amicable resolution. Newman has agreed to cover the repair costs, and the lawsuit has been withdrawn. Ali confirmed the withdrawal, expressing satisfaction with the outcome. “We are pleased that Ryan Newman has stepped up to resolve this matter, and we are happy to move forward,” Ali said.
Newman, who participated in this year’s Little 500, was served with the lawsuit while in Anderson and at his North Carolina residence. With the lawsuit now resolved, both parties can put the incident behind them.
