U.S. Women’s Softball Team Starts WBSC World Cup Finals Strong with Win Over Canada
Women’s National Softball Team kicked off their WBSC World Cup Finals campaign in Italy with a thrilling 5-2 victory over Canada on Monday. Former OU and OSU standout pitcher Kelly Maxwell dominated from the circle, tallying seven strikeouts across four scoreless innings to stifle the Canadian offense.
Canada initially took a 2-0 lead by the end of the third inning, but Team USA rallied with five unanswered runs to secure the win. Maya Brady, a former UCLA shortstop, played a pivotal role with two RBIs and a run scored, going 1-for-2 at the plate.
Up next, the United States will face off against the No. 6-ranked Italy at 1:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday, followed by a matchup against China at 7 a.m. on Wednesday to conclude the opening round.
