Kevin Magnussen Rules Out Reserve Role for 2025, Open to Advisory Position with Haas
Kevin Magnussen has confirmed he will not continue in Formula 1 as a reserve driver next year, opting instead to consider a non-racing role. The 31-year-old Danish driver will conclude his second multi-year stint with Haas at the end of this season. Speculation is rife that Esteban Ocon will replace him, with an official announcement expected just before the Belgian Grand Prix.
Ayao Komatsu, the Haas team boss, has offered Magnussen an advisory role for 2025 and beyond. Magnussen, however, is uninterested in the reserve driver role, which would require attending every Grand Prix without guaranteed racing opportunities.
“I don’t think that interests me,” Magnussen said during the Hungarian Grand Prix. “I wouldn’t want to travel to every race as a reserve, waiting for someone to get injured so I can get back into action. I don’t think that’s very exciting. I would rather do something else that fulfils me.”
Magnussen also addressed the possibility of other drivers, such as Ocon, taking his place. “In Formula 1, things happen. You move on. You can look at the other drivers and think, ‘Are they better than me or not?’ But it really doesn’t matter because it’s a fact that they’re there—and that’s how it is.”
As the season progresses, all eyes will be on Haas to see how the team’s lineup evolves and what role, if any, Magnussen will play in the team’s future.
