Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Vehicular Homicide in Drag-Racing Incident
Tra’Shawn Glass was sentenced to 12 years in prison on Friday after pleading guilty to vehicular homicide and other charges related to a fatal drag-racing incident. The 21-year-old entered a blind plea in April, meaning there was no predetermined punishment agreed upon with Knox County prosecutors.
The charges stem from a tragic event in January 2023, when Glass and co-defendant Trinity Clark engaged in an illegal street race with their Dodge Chargers. During the race, Glass lost control of his vehicle, leading to a crash that claimed the life of 65-year-old Michael Williams. Williams was driving with his two young grandchildren, who fortunately survived the incident, when he was struck and killed. The impact of the crash also sent a car careening into a nearby building, causing additional damage.
In addition to vehicular homicide, Glass faced charges for drag racing and assault. The severity of the incident and the loss of life influenced the court’s decision in handing down a substantial prison term.
Clark, who also participated in the race, faces similar charges and is currently out on bond awaiting trial. The community continues to mourn the loss of Williams and grapples with the broader implications of street racing on public safety.
This case underscores the dangers of illegal drag racing and serves as a stark reminder of the severe consequences that can arise from reckless behavior on the roads.
