Kyle Larson Calls for More Off-Weeks in NASCAR Schedule After Olympic Break
Kyle Larson, the current leader in the NASCAR Cup Series standings, has expressed his desire for additional off-weeks in the NASCAR schedule. Following a two-week break after the Brickyard 400 due to the Paris Olympics, Larson highlighted the benefits of the hiatus, noting the positive impact it had on drivers and teams alike.
“The summer months get difficult and long and tough, so it was good to have two off weeks,” Larson remarked after finishing seventh in the Cook Out 400. He emphasized the need for more breaks, especially considering the grueling nature of the season. “I wish we had more, maybe not necessarily this year but like looking to next year. I think we will have like one off week, which is typical it seems from the last few years. But I would love more. I think we all would.”
Larson, who has secured four race wins this season, remains a top contender for the 2024 championship title. Despite his on-track success, the #5 Hendrick Motorsports driver believes that additional rest periods could be beneficial for the entire NASCAR community.
In a lighter moment, Larson recently participated in a fun guessing game with his Hendrick Motorsports teammates, where they tried to identify tweets from each other. The tweets, all authored by Alex Bowman, left Larson guessing wrong as he mistook a humorous post for one by Chase Elliott. “I want to say William (Byron) but Chase seems to be pretty funny, so it’s got to be Chase,” Larson said during the game.
As Larson continues to lead the Cup Series standings with 779 points, his call for a revised schedule might resonate with many in the NASCAR paddock as they navigate the demands of the racing season.
