Former Olympic Cyclist Daniela Larreal Chirinos Dies at 50 from Apparent Choking Incident
Daniela Larreal Chirinos, a five-time Olympic cyclist for Venezuela, tragically passed away last week in Las Vegas at the age of 50. Reports indicate that Chirinos died after choking on food in her apartment. The accomplished athlete, who competed in the Olympics from 1992 to 2012, was found deceased on Friday, August 16, after failing to show up for her job.
Chirinos was reported missing on August 12 when she did not arrive at work. Authorities discovered her body four days later, and early investigations suggest she died from asphyxiation due to solid food obstructing her airway. It is believed that she passed away on August 11. An official cause of death is still pending confirmation from the Clark County Coroner’s Office.
The Venezuelan Olympic Committee expressed deep sorrow over the loss in a social media statement, highlighting her impressive career. Chirinos, while never medaling in the Olympics, earned gold twice in the Pan American Games and Championships, solidifying her reputation as one of Venezuela’s top athletes.
The cycling community mourns the loss of an athlete who brought pride to her nation across five Olympic Games and numerous international competitions.
