Cleveland Guardians Lock in Andrés Giménez with Seven-Year, $106.5 Million Contract
The Cleveland Guardians solidified their infield for the long haul by signing young second baseman Andrés Giménez to a seven-year, $106.5 million contract. The deal, which includes a $4 million signing bonus, marks the second-largest contract in franchise history, trailing only the $141 million deal signed by José Ramírez in 2022.
Giménez, 24 at the time of the signing, had just come off a breakout 2022 season. That year, he earned American League All-Star honors and won the Rawlings Gold Glove for his stellar defense at second base. His offensive production was equally impressive, posting a .297 batting average, .837 OPS, with 26 doubles, 17 home runs, and 69 RBIs. Giménez also showcased his speed, stealing 20 bases in 23 attempts.
Now 25, Giménez added another accolade to his résumé in 2024, winning the prestigious Rawlings Platinum Glove, an award reserved for the best defensive player in each league.
Giménez’s contract guarantees him $106.5 million, with an average annual value of $15.2 million. He will earn $5,571,429 in the 2024 season, with his payouts increasing each year as the contract progresses.
Giménez’s combination of defensive excellence and consistent offensive production has made him a cornerstone for the Guardians, securing their middle infield for years to come. His long-term deal ensures Cleveland retains one of its brightest young stars while continuing to compete at the highest level.
