Ja’Marr Chase Backs Bengals Despite Disappointing Week 1 Loss to Patriots
Despite a lackluster performance in Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season, Cincinnati Bengals star wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase remains confident in his team’s potential. The Bengals, widely regarded as contenders for the AFC crown this season, stumbled out of the gate with a 10-3 loss to the New England Patriots, a team not expected to contend. The game saw the Bengals’ offense sputter, with no passing touchdowns and Chase managing just six catches for 62 yards.
Chase, 24, voiced his displeasure after the game, specifically with the team’s performance and his lack of targets. However, he remains optimistic about Cincinnati’s chances, stating on Thursday, “We’re the team to beat in the AFC. We need to act like it, and we need to play like it.” His bold comments come despite a lingering contract dispute that saw him sit out nearly the entire preseason.
Interestingly, Chase’s production has dipped since last December when he last caught a touchdown, raising questions about whether the Bengals can meet his high expectations. With the defending Super Bowl champions, the Kansas City Chiefs, awaiting them in Week 2, Cincinnati will need to quickly turn things around to prove their star wide receiver right.
