Joe Burrow Sells Ownership Stake in Columbus Fury Amid Focus on NFL Career and Charitable Ventures
Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow has decided to part ways with his ownership stake in the Columbus Fury, a Pro Volleyball Federation franchise. Burrow, along with his parents, Jimmy and Robin Burrow, had initially invested in the league as early supporters, but they announced their decision to exit the venture ahead of the league’s February 2024 debut.
Burrow cited the need to prioritize his NFL career and focus on expanding his charitable initiatives as key reasons for the sale. “I’m fully committed to my responsibilities on the field, and with the Bengals in the thick of things, I need to direct all my energy toward football,” said Burrow. “Additionally, my family and I want to dedicate more time to the Joe Burrow Foundation, which has become a significant part of our mission off the field.”
While Burrow expressed excitement about the potential of the Pro Volleyball Federation, he acknowledged that juggling ownership responsibilities with a demanding NFL schedule had become more challenging than expected. “The league is in great hands with its leadership and talented athletes, but I believe the best course for both the Fury and myself is to hand things off to someone who can give it the attention it deserves.”
Industry sources indicate that the Burrow family’s stake has already attracted interest from local investors eager to keep the Fury’s ownership rooted in Ohio. The new ownership group will be announced in the coming weeks, with the goal of maintaining the franchise’s momentum leading up to the season.
Pro Volleyball Federation CEO Stephen Evans thanked Burrow for his early support. “The Burrows were instrumental in getting this league off the ground, and we appreciate their contributions. We are excited to build on the foundation they helped create as we move closer to our inaugural season.”
Burrow’s departure highlights the increasing complexities athletes face when balancing off-field business interests with their primary careers. However, he leaves the Pro Volleyball Federation on good terms, expressing confidence in the league’s bright future. “I’ll always be rooting for the Fury and the Pro Volleyball Federation,” Burrow added. “It’s just time for us to focus on the next chapter.”
