Texas Volleyball Star Marianna Singletary Injured in Car Crash, Expected to Miss Remainder of Season
Austin, TX – In a shocking turn of events, University of Texas volleyball standout Marianna Singletary was involved in a serious car accident late Wednesday night. Singletary, who has been instrumental to the Longhorns’ strong 2024 season, sustained multiple injuries and is expected to miss the remainder of the year.
According to initial reports, the accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. near downtown Austin. Singletary was driving alone when her vehicle collided with a pickup truck at an intersection. Emergency responders arrived quickly, and Singletary was taken to a nearby hospital, where she is in stable condition but undergoing treatment for a fractured arm, mild concussion, and several bruises.
The driver of the other vehicle was not seriously injured, and local authorities have begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash. Early reports suggest that weather conditions and driver fatigue may have been contributing factors, though no charges have been filed at this time.
Singletary’s injury is a significant blow to the Longhorns, who are currently ranked in the top 10 nationally. Known for her defensive prowess, Singletary was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week twice this season and has been pivotal in several key victories.
Texas head coach Jerritt Elliott addressed the incident in a press conference Thursday morning. “Our thoughts are with Marianna right now. We’re relieved that her injuries weren’t more severe, but our priority is her recovery and well-being. She’s a fighter, and I know she’ll get through this.”
Teammates have rallied around Singletary, expressing their support on social media with messages like “Get well soon, Mari!” and “#LonghornStrong.” Fans have also taken to platforms like X (formerly Twitter) to wish her a speedy recovery.
The Longhorns, already battling injuries to other players, will now face a tough challenge moving forward without Singletary’s presence on the court. Coach Elliott has stated that younger players will need to step up as they continue their quest for the conference title.
Though the season’s outlook may be clouded, Singletary’s resilience and the support from the Texas volleyball community offer hope for her recovery and return to action in the future.
