Tony Hinchcliffe Sparks Controversy with Offensive Jokes at Trump Rally
New York, Oct. 28 – Comedian and podcaster Tony Hinchcliffe, known for his irreverent humor on the podcast Kill Tony, is facing swift backlash after delivering a controversial performance at Donald Trump’s rally at Madison Square Garden. Hinchcliffe’s set, filled with offensive jokes targeting minorities, drew sharp criticism from Democrats and activists.
The comedian made crude remarks about Latinos, Black Americans, Arabs, and Jews, some of which were deemed racially insensitive and inappropriate for the family-oriented audience. Hinchcliffe joked about Latino families having numerous children, using a sexually explicit punchline to comment on illegal immigration. While parts of the crowd responded with laughter, others were visibly uncomfortable, especially parents who had brought young children.
In one of the more inflammatory remarks, Hinchcliffe referred to Puerto Rico as a “floating pile of garbage,” sparking outrage on social media. He also mocked a Black man for allegedly “carving watermelons” for Halloween, a reference many viewed as perpetuating harmful racial stereotypes.
Several Democratic lawmakers condemned the comedian’s performance, with Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez calling the remarks “disgusting and dehumanizing.” She urged event organizers and public figures to avoid platforms that promote hateful rhetoric. “There’s no room for this kind of vitriol in our political discourse,” she said in a statement.
Although some Trump supporters defended Hinchcliffe’s jokes as comedic freedom, others distanced themselves from the act. The incident has reignited debates over the boundaries of free speech and the role of humor in politics.
Hinchcliffe has not publicly commented on the backlash, but critics argue his performance reflects a broader trend of incendiary language becoming normalized at political events. Trump’s campaign has yet to address the controversy.
