John Cook’s TikTok Strategy Boosts Nebraska Volleyball’s Engagement and Team Morale
Nebraska volleyball head coach John Cook is redefining what it means to connect with players and fans alike, thanks to the power of TikTok. Known for his strategic mind on the court, Cook’s off-court presence is now just as impactful, thanks to a suggestion from one of his players, Harper Murray.
Murray’s bond with Cook and the team was apparent as they began posting behind-the-scenes content on TikTok. “John Cook joining TikTok was definitely not his idea, it came from Harper Murray,” said Erin Sorensen of Counter Read. “At some point along the road, the suggestion was made that John Cook should join TikTok.” Now, with over 75,000 followers, Cook’s posts have become a viral hit, showcasing the lighter side of the team while creating an authentic connection with fans.
The content on the platform has had a ripple effect, with fans across the country engaging with Nebraska volleyball. “People all over the country are talking about how they want to play for Nebraska,” Sorensen explained. “It’s creating pre-teens who dream of becoming Nebraska volleyball stars.”
For Cook, TikTok is more than just a trend—it’s a way to foster team culture and boost morale. “He always strives to have a strong relationship and connection with his players,” Sorensen said. “Having a team that truly bonds makes it easier to expect success, especially when aiming for a national championship.”
What started as a fun experiment has now become an integral part of Cook’s strategy for keeping the lines of communication open between him, his players, and the Husker community. Through TikTok, Cook is not only building a championship-caliber team but also inspiring the next generation of Nebraska volleyball stars.
