IMPRESSIVE DEAL: Yankees Agrees $105M Bellinger Mouthwatering Deal

Yankees in Advanced Talks with Cubs for Cody Bellinger Trade

The New York Yankees are reportedly deep into discussions with the Chicago Cubs on a potential trade centered around outfielder Cody Bellinger. According to sources, the Yankees are negotiating terms for the Cubs to cover at least $10 million of Bellinger’s contract to finalize the deal.

Bellinger, the 2019 National League MVP, is under contract for at least $52 million over the next two years. Despite the hefty financial commitment, the Yankees see the 28-year-old as a key piece to revamp their lineup after a disappointing 2024 season. Known for his power and versatility, Bellinger could provide an offensive spark and strengthen New York’s defensive depth in the outfield.

The former MVP enjoyed a career-high campaign in 2019 with the Los Angeles Dodgers, hitting 47 home runs, driving in 115 runs, and posting a stellar 1.035 OPS. He was instrumental in helping the Dodgers capture the World Series title in 2020 during the pandemic-shortened season. However, Bellinger’s production dipped significantly in 2021 and 2022 due to injuries and inconsistencies, leading to the Dodgers’ decision to non-tender him after the 2022 season.

Bellinger signed with the Cubs in free agency, aiming to rebuild his value, and he did just that with a resurgent 2023 season. His improved form has made him an attractive trade target for the Yankees, who are eager to address their offensive struggles and make a push for postseason contention.

While the talks are progressing, the financial aspect of the deal remains a critical point. If the Cubs agree to absorb a portion of Bellinger’s salary, the trade could mark a significant offseason move for the Yankees as they aim to return to championship contention.
