MEGA DEAL: Yankees Completes The Signing Of An All Star $405.5M Infielder In A Blockbuster Deal After Missing Out On Tucker

Yankees Eyeing Alex Bregman After Missing Out on Kyle Tucker

In a surprising turn, the Chicago Cubs completed a blockbuster trade for Houston Astros outfielder Kyle Tucker on Friday, leaving the New York Yankees searching for alternative options to strengthen their roster. As a result, the Yankees have shifted their focus to another prominent name: Alex Bregman.

According to MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the Yankees are expected to launch an aggressive pursuit of Bregman, a two-time World Series champion and former Astros star. The move could see Jazz Chisholm, who the Yankees acquired earlier in the offseason, transition to second base.

“The New York Yankees now are expected to put on a full-court press to sign Bregman and move Jazz Chisholm to second base,” Nightengale wrote in a November 13 report. The Yankees’ interest in Bregman follows their failure to retain Juan Soto, who signed with the New York Mets in free agency.

Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman spoke candidly about Bregman during a press conference on Friday. “He’s been a thorn in our side for years,” Cashman said, acknowledging the challenges of facing Bregman during his time with the Astros. “I’ve had a conversation or two with Scott Boras, including about Alex Bregman. Certainly respect the player and his ability.”

In addition to pursuing Bregman, the Yankees are still in talks with the Chicago Cubs about outfielder Cody Bellinger. Both moves could bolster a lineup that underperformed last season.

Despite his controversial past as a member of the 2017 Astros team implicated in a sign-stealing scandal, Bregman’s talent and postseason pedigree make him an appealing target for the Yankees as they aim to return to championship contention. With free agency in full swing, the Yankees appear ready to make bold moves to reshape their roster.
