I Test Run A New Tactics Against Bonaventure, I Will Consolidates it Despite Defeat – Kim English

Providence Falls to St. Bonaventure in Hall of Fame Showcase, 74-70

UNCASVILLE, Conn. — The Providence College men’s basketball team fell short against the St. Bonaventure Bonnies, 74-70, in a Hall of Fame Showcase matchup on Saturday at Mohegan Sun Arena. The loss dropped the Friars to 7-5 on the season as they concluded their non-conference schedule.

Despite a strong second-half push, Providence struggled to overcome turnovers and rebounding challenges against the disciplined Bonnies, who improved to 10-1 with the win. St. Bonaventure capitalized on second-chance opportunities and sharp perimeter shooting to maintain control for much of the game.

“It was a disappointing outcome, but I give the Bonnies a ton of credit,” Providence head coach Kim English said. “We need to be tougher. We’ll get back to the drawing board and be ready for conference play.”

Bryce Hopkins led the Friars with a solid performance, contributing 18 points and eight rebounds. Devin Carter added 16 points, helping Providence stay within striking distance late in the game. However, St. Bonaventure’s balanced attack, led by a standout 20-point effort from their guard, proved too much to overcome.

The Friars mounted a late rally, cutting the deficit to two points in the closing minutes, but missed opportunities at the free-throw line and key turnovers allowed the Bonnies to seal the victory.

With non-conference play behind them, Providence now turns its attention to the Big East schedule.
