December 20, 2024 — Pasadena, CA
The city of Pasadena, California, unveiled a memorial statue honoring Eddie Van Halen, the late guitar virtuoso and co-founder of the legendary rock band Van Halen. The monument, located in the city’s Civic Center, pays tribute to Eddie’s unparalleled contributions to music and his deep connection to the community where his journey began.
Designed by renowned sculptor Mark Stevenson, the statue depicts Eddie in his iconic pose, mid-solo with his famous red, white, and black-striped “Frankenstrat” guitar. Surrounding the base are engraved quotes from fans, bandmates, and Eddie himself, celebrating his life and legacy.
Pasadena Mayor Carla Thompson spoke at the ceremony:
“Eddie Van Halen was more than a rock star; he was a source of inspiration and pride for Pasadena. This statue is a testament to his enduring impact on the world of music and the hearts of his fans.”
The Van Halen family, including Eddie’s son Wolfgang, attended the unveiling and shared personal stories about Eddie’s passion for music and his hometown. Wolfgang, now an accomplished musician in his own right, said, “This statue is not just a tribute to my father but a reminder of how his art touched so many lives.”
The event drew thousands of fans from around the globe, many donning Van Halen shirts and carrying memorabilia. A tribute concert featuring local bands and special guests was held afterward, with proceeds going to music education programs in Pasadena schools, a cause Eddie supported during his lifetime.
