Sports Betting Launch

 

On March 11, 2024, North Carolina introduced online sports betting, becoming the 30th state to do so. This initiative, following legislation signed by Governor Roy Cooper on June 14, 2023, permits residents to place wagers on various sports through platforms like FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM. The state has authorized up to 12 online and eight retail sportsbooks, with an 18% tax on revenue allocated to public services and athletic programs at Appalachian State and East Carolina University.
