Columbia, SC – December 29, 2024
The South Carolina Gamecocks added another thrilling chapter to their storied athletic history last night with a dramatic 27-24 victory over the Tennessee Volunteers in a pivotal Southeastern Conference (SEC) showdown at Williams-Brice Stadium.
Led by standout quarterback Mason Brooks, who threw for 315 yards and three touchdowns, the Gamecocks showcased a balanced attack and unyielding defense to clinch the win in the game’s final seconds. Running back Jalen Rivers contributed with 115 rushing yards, while wide receiver Caleb Harris caught the game-winning touchdown, sending the home crowd into a frenzy.
Head Coach Shane Beamer praised his team’s resilience, saying, “This group never quits. They fight until the very end, and tonight, they proved why they belong among the best in the SEC.”
The defense, led by linebacker Malik Johnson and safety Tyrell Banks, held strong against Tennessee’s high-powered offense, forcing two crucial turnovers in the fourth quarter.
With this win, the Gamecocks improve to 9-3 on the season, keeping their hopes alive for a New Year’s Six bowl appearance.
Gamecock fans are already looking ahead to next week’s Palmetto Bowl against arch-rival Clemson, a game that promises to deliver even more fireworks.
