Jacqui Jeras Reflects on Breast Health Journey and Continued Advocacy
Washington, D.C. – Renowned meteorologist Jacqui Jeras is marking nearly a decade since her life-changing decision to undergo surgery for a small tumor found during a routine breast screening. Though the tumor was benign, doctors revealed it had a 15% chance of becoming cancerous if left untreated.
Jeras first opened up about her experience in 2015 during a segment on WJLA, where she worked at the time, sharing her journey with viewers and encouraging them to prioritize their health. Partnering with her surgeon, Dr. Costanza Cocilovo, she highlighted the importance of early detection and proactive medical care.
Reflecting on her journey today, Jeras remains committed to advocating for breast health awareness. “It was a wake-up call for me,” she says. “Regular screenings and listening to your body can truly save your life.”
Jeras continues to use her platform as a respected meteorologist to champion this cause, particularly during Breast Cancer Awareness Month each October. She encourages women to stay vigilant, schedule their mammograms, and consult their doctors if they notice anything unusual.
Her story is a reminder of the life-saving power of early detection and proactive care. “I’m grateful for my health and the chance to share my story. If it helps just one person, it’s worth it,” Jeras says.
