It’s Not The $100M Signing We Looking For But It Did Put The Alonso Factor To Rest

Blue Jays Sign Anthony Santander to Five-Year, $92.5 Million Deal

The Toronto Blue Jays have made a significant addition to their lineup, officially signing slugging outfielder Anthony Santander to a five-year, $92.5 million contract. The deal, which includes $61.75 million in deferred payments, effectively reduces its present-day value to approximately $68.6 million.

Santander, 30, is coming off a career-best season with the Baltimore Orioles, where he hit 44 home runs and recorded 102 RBIs. Over his eight seasons in Baltimore, he compiled a .246/.307/.469 batting line, with 155 home runs and 435 RBIs. The switch-hitting outfielder brings a much-needed power boost to Toronto’s lineup, which struggled with offensive production last season.

Blue Jays General Manager Ross Atkins emphasized the team’s long-standing interest in Santander. “We had a jersey floating around our office with your name on it all offseason,” Atkins said during the introductory press conference.

Santander is expected to slot into the heart of Toronto’s batting order, likely hitting behind Vladimir Guerrero Jr. His power from both sides of the plate complements the team’s emphasis on improving offensive consistency.

This signing marks a major step for the Blue Jays after missing out on high-profile targets such as Juan Soto and Roki Sasaki earlier in the offseason. The move signals Toronto’s commitment to contending in a competitive AL East division.

With spring training just weeks away, the Blue Jays hope Santander’s bat can help propel them back into postseason contention in 2025.
