Stephanie Mead’s Meteorological Journey: From NIU to FOX 2 Detroit
Stephanie Mead, a native of Chicago and a Northern Illinois University (NIU) alumna, has carved a notable path in broadcast meteorology, leading her to her current role at FOX 2 Detroit. Graduating from NIU in 2013 with a degree in geography and a minor in journalism, Mead actively participated in the Northern Television Center, honing her skills in storytelling and editing.
Her career commenced in Twin Falls, Idaho, at KMTV, where she anchored weekend evening weather forecasts. She then transitioned to WGBA-TV NBC 26 in Green Bay, Wisconsin, delivering weekend morning weather updates and covering significant events like the storm that delayed the PGA Championship at Whistling Straits.
Mead’s journey continued at WISH-TV in Indianapolis, Indiana, where she anchored weekday morning weather forecasts and traffic updates, and hosted a weekly community-focused podcast. After six years in Indiana, she joined FOX 2 Detroit, where she currently anchors morning and evening weather forecasts on weekdays and weekends, serves as a fill-in host for the morning lifestyle show, and represents the station at community events.
