Hayley Erbert Faces Minor Memory Loss Resurgence Following Brain Surgery

July 21, 2024 – Los Angeles, CA

Hayley Erbert, the wife of professional dancer and choreographer Derek Hough, has opened up about experiencing a minor resurgence of memory loss following her emergency brain surgery last year.

Erbert, who underwent surgery in December 2023 due to a cranial hematoma caused by a burst blood vessel, has been making remarkable progress in her recovery. However, in a recent social media update, she shared that she has noticed occasional moments of forgetfulness, which doctors have reassured her are part of the normal healing process.

“It’s nothing major, but I do sometimes forget little things that I normally wouldn’t,” Erbert said. “The doctors told me that recovery from brain surgery isn’t always linear, and there can be ups and downs. I’m staying positive and continuing to focus on my health.”

Derek Hough, ever the supportive husband, praised Hayley’s resilience, noting that her strength and determination continue to inspire him. “She’s been through so much, and yet she keeps pushing forward with grace. These little setbacks are just part of the journey, and I have no doubt she’ll overcome them like she has everything else,” he shared.

Neurologists say that mild memory lapses after brain surgery are not uncommon and can improve with time, cognitive exercises, and proper rest. Erbert remains optimistic, focusing on rehabilitation and enjoying time with family and friends.

Fans and fellow dancers have flooded her with messages of support, encouraging her to take things at her own pace. “Your journey is inspiring,” one fan wrote. “Healing takes time, and you’re doing amazing!”

As Erbert continues her recovery, she and Hough remain grateful for the love and support they’ve received. “One day at a time,” she said, “and I know I’ll get there.”
