Breaking: WNBA Legend Lisa Leslie Joins WVU Women’s Basketball to Develop Frontcourt Players

Morgantown, WV – West Virginia University women’s basketball is making a major move, bringing in WNBA legend Lisa Leslie to help develop its frontcourt players. Leslie, a 3-time WNBA MVP, 4-time Olympic gold medalist, and Hall of Famer, will serve as a special advisor, working closely with the Mountaineers’ post players.

Head coach Mark Kellogg, who took over the program in 2023, believes Leslie’s experience will be invaluable as WVU continues to rise in the Big 12 Conference. “Lisa is one of the greatest to ever play the game, and having her work with our players is a tremendous opportunity,” Kellogg said. “Her knowledge of footwork, rebounding, and scoring in the post will help us take the next step as a program.”

Leslie, who was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2015, is eager to share her expertise. “I’m honored to join Coach Kellogg and his incredible program,” Leslie said. “West Virginia has a rich basketball tradition, and I’m excited to help these young women reach their full potential.”

The Mountaineers, who made the NCAA Tournament last season, are looking to build on their success and compete at the highest level. With Leslie’s guidance, WVU hopes to develop a dominant frontcourt capable of challenging the top teams in the country.

WVU fans will get their first look at Leslie’s impact when the team begins preseason workouts this fall. Expectations are high as the Mountaineers aim for a deep NCAA Tournament run and continued success in the Big 12.
