Bearly 48 Hours After Being Named Coach, Ross Hodge Gives Mountaineer The Shocker Of A Lifetime, Many Are Still Gasping For Air

Ross Hodge Named New West Virginia Men’s Basketball Head Coach

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia University has officially named Ross Hodge as the new head coach of its men’s basketball program. Hodge takes over the Mountaineers following a successful tenure as the head coach at North Texas, where he led the Mean Green to significant accomplishments in recent seasons.

Hodge, 47, brings a wealth of coaching experience to Morgantown, having been a key figure in North Texas’ rise to national prominence. Under his leadership, the Mean Green won the 2023 NIT championship and made multiple postseason appearances. His defensive-minded approach and emphasis on player development have earned him widespread recognition in collegiate basketball circles.

“I am incredibly honored to take on this role at West Virginia,” Hodge said in a statement. “The tradition and passion surrounding Mountaineer basketball are second to none, and I am eager to lead this program to new heights. I look forward to working with our student-athletes and staff to build a winning culture that our fans can be proud of.”

West Virginia athletic director Wren Baker expressed confidence in Hodge’s ability to revitalize the program. “Ross has demonstrated a commitment to excellence throughout his career. His ability to develop talent, implement a winning system, and connect with players makes him the right fit for our program. We believe he will bring stability and success to Mountaineer basketball.”

Hodge replaces interim head coach Josh Eilert, who led the team last season following Bob Huggins’ departure. The Mountaineers finished the 2023-24 season with a 9-23 record and will look to rebound under Hodge’s leadership.

Hodge is expected to assemble his coaching staff and hit the recruiting trail immediately as he prepares for his first season at the helm. West Virginia fans will be eager to see how the program evolves under his direction.
