Bombshell: First Year Coach Kim Caldwell Breaks Season Record ‘We Did Something Special’

Lady Vols Reflect on Memorable March Madness Run: ‘We Did Something Special’

In the aftermath of their NCAA Tournament exit, the Tennessee Lady Volunteers are looking back on their journey with a sense of pride and accomplishment. Despite falling to Texas in the Sweet 16 with a hard-fought 67-59 loss, the Lady Vols believe their season was nothing short of special.

“We did something special,” said one of the team’s senior leaders. “We battled all season long, overcame adversity, and proved that we belong among the best in the country.”

Under first-year head coach Kim Caldwell, the Lady Vols embraced a new style of play and set records along the way. On December 14, 2024, they made history by hitting 30 three-pointers in a single game, setting an NCAA record in their dominant 139-59 victory over North Carolina Central.

Their tournament journey began with a commanding 101-66 victory over South Florida in the opening round, followed by an impressive 82-67 win against Ohio State to advance to the Sweet 16. Against Texas, the Lady Vols fought valiantly but struggled to contain the Longhorns’ defensive pressure in the final minutes.

“Obviously, we wanted to go further, but we left everything on the court,” another player shared. “We’re proud of what we accomplished, and we know this program is only going to keep getting better.”

The Lady Vols’ season had its ups and downs, but their resilience and determination stood out. With Caldwell’s leadership and a talented core of returning players, Tennessee is poised to build on this year’s success and make an even deeper run in next year’s tournament.

“This is just the beginning,” Caldwell said. “These players have set the foundation for something truly special, and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this program.”

As the Lady Vols head into the offseason, they do so with their heads held high, knowing they’ve made their mark and given their fans a season to remember.
