Marley Washenitz Commits to South Carolina for Final Season
March 30, 2025 — In a surprising move, former Pittsburgh guard Marley Washenitz has officially committed to the University of South Carolina for her final season of eligibility, joining one of the nation’s most dominant women’s basketball programs.
Washenitz, a Fairmont, West Virginia native and former Fairmont Senior High School standout, entered the transfer portal after a strong season with the Panthers, where she averaged 9.3 points, 2.7 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. Despite interest from multiple programs, including West Virginia and Oklahoma, Washenitz ultimately chose to take her talents to Columbia.
“South Carolina is the perfect fit for me,” Washenitz said. “I’m excited to play under Coach Dawn Staley and be part of such a winning culture. The opportunity to compete at the highest level and develop my game with some of the best players in the country is something I couldn’t pass up.”
Head coach Dawn Staley welcomed Washenitz, praising her versatility and competitive spirit.
“Marley is a hardworking, skilled player who will add depth and leadership to our backcourt,” Staley said. “Her ability to create plays and defend at a high level makes her a great addition to our team.”
With South Carolina consistently competing for national championships, Washenitz’s addition strengthens an already formidable roster. The Gamecocks’ fans can expect to see her bring energy and experience to the program as they aim for another deep tournament run in the 2025-26 season.
