Marley Washenitz Commits to Providence Friars for Final Season

March 30, 2025 — Former Pittsburgh guard Marley Washenitz has officially committed to Providence College for her final season of eligibility, adding a key piece to the Friars’ backcourt as they look to compete in the Big East next season.

Washenitz, a Fairmont, West Virginia native and former Fairmont Senior High School standout, entered the transfer portal after a strong season with the Panthers, where she averaged 9.3 points, 2.7 assists, and 3.5 rebounds per game. Despite interest from several programs, including West Virginia and Oklahoma, she ultimately chose to continue her career at Providence.

“I’m thrilled to be joining the Friars,” Washenitz said. “The coaching staff, the team culture, and the opportunity to play in the Big East really made this the best decision for me. I can’t wait to get to work.”

Providence head coach Erin Batth praised Washenitz’s experience and versatility, emphasizing her impact on both ends of the court.

“Marley is a tough, talented guard who will bring leadership and scoring ability to our program,” Batth said. “Her competitive spirit and work ethic make her a perfect fit for what we’re building here at Providence.”

With Washenitz on board, the Friars gain a skilled playmaker who can contribute immediately. As they aim to climb the Big East standings, her presence adds valuable depth and experience to the roster.
