Ross Hodge Pledges Successful Run as West Virginia Head Coach
Morgantown, WV – Newly appointed West Virginia head coach Ross Hodge has vowed to restore the Mountaineers’ prominence in college basketball, pledging a successful tenure marked by toughness, discipline, and defensive excellence.
In his introductory press conference, Hodge made it clear that he intends to build a competitive program that can contend in the Big 12 and beyond. “West Virginia basketball has a rich tradition, and I am honored to lead this program,” Hodge said. “We will play hard, we will play smart, and we will bring Mountaineer basketball back to where it belongs.”
Hodge, who arrives in Morgantown after a successful stint as the head coach at North Texas, is widely regarded for his defensive acumen and player development skills. Under his leadership, North Texas boasted one of the most formidable defenses in the nation, a strategy he plans to implement at WVU.
“Our identity will be built on defense, effort, and accountability,” Hodge added. “Every game, every possession, we will bring intensity. We want to be the team that no one wants to play.”
West Virginia has faced challenges in recent seasons, including coaching instability and roster turnover. However, Hodge’s appointment has sparked optimism among players, alumni, and fans. Athletic director Wren Baker expressed confidence in Hodge’s ability to lead WVU into a new era of success.
“Ross is a proven winner and a relentless competitor,” Baker said. “We believe in his vision and leadership, and we’re excited for what the future holds under his guidance.”
With a renewed sense of purpose, Hodge has already begun assembling his coaching staff and targeting recruits who fit his system. As he takes the reins, Mountaineer Nation eagerly anticipates a new chapter of success under Ross Hodge’s leadership.
