“NFL Bust to CFL Star? Saskatchewan Roughriders Eye Trey Lance for Comeback”

Saskatchewan Roughriders Add Former NFL Quarterback Trey Lance to Negotiation List

In a move that has sparked considerable discussion within the Canadian Football League (CFL), the Saskatchewan Roughriders have added former NFL quarterback Trey Lance to their negotiation list. This development grants the Roughriders exclusive rights to negotiate with Lance should he opt to continue his professional football career in Canada.

Trey Lance, 25, was selected third overall by the San Francisco 49ers in the 2021 NFL Draft. Despite high expectations, his tenure in the NFL has been marked by injuries and limited playing time. After an ankle injury in 2022 and serving primarily as a backup, Lance was traded to the Dallas Cowboys, where he remained a third-string quarterback. With his contract expiring and no new NFL offers forthcoming, Lance has entered free agency.

The Roughriders’ interest in Lance is particularly noteworthy given his familial ties to the team; his father, Carlton Lance, played for Saskatchewan in 1993.

While the addition of Lance to the Roughriders’ negotiation list does not guarantee his signing, it underscores the CFL team’s proactive approach in securing potential talent. As the situation develops, fans and analysts alike will be keen to see if Lance chooses to embark on a new chapter of his football career north of the

border.
