Coach Thomas Iisalo Is Bringing A Two Times All-Star, An MPV And A Legendary Randolph To Solidify…

Grizzlies Interim Coach Tuomas Iisalo Reaches Out to Zach Randolph to Help Guide Young Memphis Squad

Memphis, TN — In a move that speaks volumes about the culture and tradition of Memphis basketball, interim head coach Tuomas Iisalo has reportedly reached out to Grizzlies legend Zach Randolph to return in a mentorship role and help guide the current young squad through a challenging season.

Sources close to the organization say Iisalo, who took over coaching duties in late March, has been adamant about connecting the Grizzlies’ present with its proud past. At the top of his list? None other than Randolph — the heart and soul of the “Grit and Grind” era.

“Z-Bo represents everything Memphis basketball is about — toughness, resilience, and heart,” Iisalo said during a media session. “This is a young team finding its identity. Who better to speak to them than a man who built his legacy right here?”

Randolph, still beloved in Memphis, is said to be receptive to the idea. He’s remained connected to the city since his retirement and was inducted into the Memphis Sports Hall of Fame in 2024.

“Memphis made me who I am,” Randolph said in a brief statement. “Anytime I can give back, especially to these young guys trying to carry the torch, I’m all in.”

Iisalo hopes Randolph’s presence — even informally — will help players like Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., and Desmond Bane navigate the pressures of the NBA while staying grounded in the Grizzlies’ blue-collar values.

The Grizzlies sit in the middle of a transition phase, but bringing back a franchise icon could be just the spark they need.
