Shane van Gisbergen Donates $50 Million to New Zealand Motorsport Academy: “Giving Back to the Track That Made Me”

In a powerful gesture of gratitude and commitment to the future of racing, three-time Supercars champion and rising NASCAR star Shane van Gisbergen has announced a stunning $50 million donation to establish the New Zealand Motorsport Academy — a world-class facility dedicated to developing young drivers, engineers, and motorsport talent across the country.
Van Gisbergen, widely regarded as one of New Zealand’s greatest racing exports, made the announcement during an emotional event at Hampton Downs Motorsport Park — a track that has been central to his journey from local racer to international sensation.
> “New Zealand motorsport shaped me — not just as a driver, but as a person,” Van Gisbergen said. “This is about giving back to the grassroots and helping the next generation chase their dreams on and off the track.”
The Shane van Gisbergen Motorsport Academy will feature elite driver training programs, cutting-edge simulator technology, engineering workshops, and scholarship opportunities for young drivers from diverse and underrepresented backgrounds.
Motorsport New Zealand officials praised the donation as a game-changer for the country’s racing future.

To commemorate the donation, a mural celebrating Van Gisbergen’s legendary career — from Supercars dominance to NASCAR victories — will be installed in downtown Auckland, serving as a permanent reminder of his dedication to both racing and his home country.

Construction on the Shane van Gisbergen Motorsport Academy is expected to begin in late 2025, with a grand opening set for 2027.
