Providence, R.I. — The Providence Friars have made a major splash on the international recruiting scene with the official signing of Estonian guard Stefan Vaaks for the 2025-26 men’s basketball season.

 

Vaaks, a 6-foot-6, 190-pound guard, brings a dynamic skill set and elite international experience to the Friars’ backcourt. He impressed scouts throughout the 2024 FIBA Europe Cup, where he averaged 14.8 points, 3.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game.

 

During the 2024-25 season, Vaaks played for BC Kalev/Cramo in the Latvia-Estonia Basketball League, putting up 15 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 steals per contest. His standout performance included a 25-point game against Keila KK, in which he shot 5-of-9 from beyond the arc and added four rebounds and three assists.

 

Vaaks also represented Estonia in the 2024 FIBA EuroBasket 2025 Qualifiers, where he contributed 4.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 1.0 assist per game in limited minutes, showcasing his potential on the international stage.

 

With his ability to shoot, create off the dribble, and defend multiple positions, Vaaks is expected to make an immediate impact for head coach Kim English and the Friars. His signing marks a strong step forward as Providence aims to climb the Big East ladder nex
