April 7, 2025 — Paris, France

In a historic move that has thrilled Australian motorsport fans around the world, the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has announced the posthumous induction of Peter Brock into the prestigious FIA Hall of Fame.

Widely regarded as one of the greatest touring car drivers in history, Brock becomes the first Australian-based driver to be honored by the FIA primarily for achievements outside of its world championship categories.

“Peter Brock was more than a racing driver — he was an icon who transcended motorsport,” FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said during the induction ceremony in Paris. “His legacy at Mount Panorama and in Australian Touring Cars inspired generations of drivers worldwide. It is only fitting that the FIA recognizes his lasting impact on our sport.”

Brock, who passed away in 2006, was a nine-time winner of the Bathurst 1000 and a multiple-time Australian Touring Car Champion. His induction comes after growing calls from fans and motorsport figures to honor drivers who shaped racing history beyond Formula One or the World Rally Championship.

Australian Supercars legend Craig Lowndes, a protégé of Brock, attended the ceremony and paid tribute. “Peter was my hero and mentor — he showed us how to win with class, humility, and passion. Today, the world recognizes what Australians have known for decades.”

This landmark decision opens the door for other regional racing icons to be considered for future FIA Hall of Fame inductions.

“Peter Brock’s legacy now sits alongside the greatest names in global motorsport,” Ben Sulayem concluded. “It’s where he has always belonged.”
