Faith Torrez Suspended by OU After NCAA Regional Triumph Amid Alleged Judge Altercation
Just hours after delivering a flawless performance that helped secure the Oklahoma Sooners’ place in the NCAA Regional Final, sophomore gymnast Faith Torrez now finds herself sidelined indefinitely.
OU Athletic Director Joe Castiglione announced late Monday that Torrez has been suspended for violating team and athletic department policies. The university has yet to release specific details, but sources close to the program allege the suspension stems from an incident involving a meet official. Torrez was reportedly involved in a heated exchange with a judge regarding scoring issues shortly after her perfect 10 performance.
Head coach K.J. Kindler remained tight-lipped during a press conference following the meet, but addressed the situation in general terms: “We hold all of our student-athletes to the highest standards of conduct. Faith is an incredible competitor, but we will handle this matter internally and in accordance with our program’s values.”
The timing of the suspension raises serious questions about Torrez’s availability for the upcoming NCAA regional final — a critical meet for the Sooners as they chase another national title.
The situation remains fluid as more information is expected in the com
