April 12, 2025 – College Park, MD

Netflix has officially greenlit a new original documentary series spotlighting the University of Maryland’s storied wrestling program. Titled “Terrapin Takedown: The Rise of Maryland Wrestling”, the series will delve deep into the program’s rich history, current resurgence, and the personal stories of the athletes and coaches who are shaping its future.

The project is set to blend raw behind-the-scenes footage with in-depth interviews, offering an unfiltered look at what it takes to build a winning culture in one of the most grueling sports in collegiate athletics. From early morning workouts to intense dual meets in the Big Ten Conference—the toughest wrestling league in the country—the series will showcase the physical and mental toll required to compete at the highest level.

“We’re excited to bring the story of Maryland wrestling to a global audience,” said a Netflix spokesperson. “This isn’t just a sports story—it’s about resilience, community, and the pursuit of greatness against the odds.”

Led by head coach Alex Clemsen, Maryland wrestling has been undergoing a revitalization in recent years, with standout athletes like Kal Miller and Jaxon Smith helping to elevate the team’s profile nationally. The documentary will follow the 2024–25 season in real time, including key matchups, off-mat challenges, and the pursuit of All-American status at the NCAA Championships.

The series is being produced by the team behind Netflix’s acclaimed Last Chance U and Wrestlers, promising high-quality storytelling and emotional depth. It is slated to premiere globally in late 2025.

For fans of wrestling, college sports, or simply powerful human stories, Terrapin Takedown promises to be one of the most compelling docuseries of the year.
