Headline: Rising Bull Riding Star Dylan Grant Dies After Tragic Accident at Texas Rodeo

WHARTON COUNTY, Texas — The professional rodeo community is in mourning following the tragic death of 24-year-old bull rider Dylan Grant, who was fatally injured during the Xtreme Bulls event at the Wharton County Youth Fair on April 3, 2025.

Grant, a native of Laramie, Wyoming, was competing in the second round of the competition when he was thrown from a bull named Commander. After the fall, the bull trampled him, causing catastrophic injuries. Emergency medical personnel responded immediately and attempted to stabilize Grant before he was airlifted to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston. He passed away later that evening.

A 2023 graduate of the University of Wyoming with a degree in Physical Education, Grant had been competing professionally since 2018. He recently secured a win at the Mountain States Circuit Finals Rodeo and had earned over $15,000 in career winnings. He was widely regarded as one of the sport’s rising stars.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for our community,” said a spokesperson for the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA). “Dylan represented the best of our sport — talented, driven, and deeply respected.”

The PRCA has announced a formal review of safety protocols following the incident, which is the second serious bull riding accident reported in recent weeks.

Grant is survived by his parents and two younger siblings. The rodeo world is remembering him with the phrase, “Once a Cowboy, Always a Cowboy.”

His passion, grit, and love for bull riding will not be forgotten.
