BREAKING NEWS: Lance Armstrong Donates $3.6 Million to Open Shelter for Homeless Youth in Texas
April 13, 2025 – Austin, TX
Cycling legend and seven-time Tour de France winner Lance Armstrong is once again using his platform to make a significant impact off the bike. In an inspiring act of generosity, Armstrong has pledged $3.6 million to open a shelter and empowerment center for homeless and at-risk youth in his hometown of Austin, Texas.
Named “The Yellow Jersey House”, the center will offer safe housing, educational resources, mental health support, and leadership training for youth aged 12–20 in central Texas, an area where many young people face difficult circumstances.
> “Austin is where my story began, and I know how hard it can be for kids who have nowhere to turn,” Armstrong shared during a heartfelt press conference. “I want to give these kids a chance to rise, just as I did.”
A Champion for Change
Armstrong, who has been an outspoken advocate for cancer awareness through his foundation, LiveStrong, has long been involved in philanthropic efforts. After retiring from professional cycling, he expanded his work in social responsibility, focusing on causes close to his heart, including homelessness and youth development.
The Yellow Jersey House will open its doors in late 2026 in collaboration with local nonprofits and educators. It is expected to serve as a model for similar programs across the state.
> “Lance is more than just a cycling icon — he’s a force for positive change,” said a representative from one of the partner organizations. “This will create opportunities for kids who otherwise might fall through the cracks.”
Social Media Applauds
Fans, fellow athletes, and community leaders have praised Armstrong’s generosity, with the hashtag #YellowJerseyHouse trending nationally.
> “Lance Armstrong has always been a winner, and now he’s helping others win in life,” one fan wrote on Twitter. “True champion, on and off the bike,” said another.
