J.B. Mauney Donates $5 Million to Cancer Rehabilitation Center Ahead of Hall of Fame Induction

April 14, 2025 – Mooresville, NC – Rodeo legend J.B. Mauney has once again demonstrated that his legacy extends far beyond the bull riding arena. Just weeks before his scheduled induction into the Iredell County Sports Hall of Fame, Mauney has pledged a remarkable $5 million donation to a cancer rehabilitation center in his hometown.

The donation will go toward expanding the Lake Norman Cancer Rehabilitation Center, enhancing access to cutting-edge therapy, counseling services, and recovery programs for patients and families battling cancer. Mauney, who has long supported health-focused charities, said the decision was deeply personal.

“This community has always stood behind me,” Mauney said in a statement. “I wanted to give something meaningful back—something that will last far beyond eight seconds.”

The donation will help fund a new wing of the facility, which will be named the J.B. Mauney Recovery Pavilion, in honor of the two-time PBR World Champion. The pavilion is expected to include physical therapy spaces, wellness rooms, and dedicated areas for pediatric patients.

Mauney’s gesture has drawn widespread praise across both the sports and medical communities. “J.B. has always been a fighter,” said Dr. Melissa Rawlins, director of the Lake Norman Center. “Now he’s giving others the strength to fight, too.”

His generous act adds even greater weight to his upcoming May induction into the Iredell County Sports Hall of Fame, where he will be celebrated not just for his dominance in professional bull riding, but for his compassion and commitment to his community.

As one local resident put it: “J.B. is a legend in the arena—but he’s an even bigger hero at home.”
