CLUB STATEMENT: Paul Klempa Head Coach of Nebraska Women’s Bowling Team Has Been Fired

Paul Klempa Resigns as Head Coach of Nebraska Women’s Bowling Team

Lincoln, NE – April 21, 2025

Paul Klempa, the long-time leader of the University of Nebraska women’s bowling program, has officially stepped down from his role as head coach, the university announced Monday morning.

Klempa, who has been with the program for over two decades and took over as head coach in 2019 following the retirement of legendary coach Bill Straub, cited personal reasons for his decision to resign. His departure marks the end of a significant era for Husker bowling, which has remained a dominant force under his guidance.

“It has been an incredible honor to lead this program and work with so many outstanding student-athletes,” Klempa said in a statement. “This decision wasn’t easy, but I believe it’s the right time for me to step away and focus on family and other personal endeavors.”

During his tenure, Klempa guided Nebraska to the 2021 NCAA Championship and consistently kept the team ranked among the top programs in the nation. Known for his calm leadership and strategic expertise, Klempa continued the legacy of excellence that Straub built, earning respect throughout the collegiate bowling community.

Athletic Director Trev Alberts expressed gratitude for Klempa’s service: “Paul has been a pillar of success and stability for our bowling program. His dedication to our student-athletes and to the sport of bowling will be deeply missed. We wish him all the best in his next chapter.”

A national search for the next head coach is expected to begin immediately.
