Kim English Seeks Help from Patrick Ewing to Develop Frontcourt at Providence
Providence, RI — In an effort to strengthen Providence’s frontcourt for the upcoming season, head coach Kim English has reached out to none other than Patrick Ewing, one of the greatest big men in basketball history, for guidance and mentorship.
English, entering his second season as the Friars’ head coach, is focused on developing his young frontcourt players to compete at a high level in the Big East Conference. With size and interior presence being crucial in a league stacked with physical teams, English sought advice from Ewing, who dominated the paint during his playing days at Georgetown and in the NBA with the New York Knicks.
According to sources close to the program, Ewing has been in talks with English about sharing his expertise with the Friars’ big men, including Donovan Santoro and Rafael Castro. There is even speculation that Ewing could spend time in Providence as a guest instructor or mentor.
“Patrick is one of the best to ever do it in the post,” English said. “For our guys to learn from someone with his knowledge and experience is invaluable. We want our frontcourt to be dominant, and who better to help with that than one of the greatest centers of all time?”
Ewing, who most recently served as Georgetown’s head coach from 2017 to 2023, has remained involved in basketball despite stepping away from coaching. Known for his elite footwork, defensive dominance, and leadership, his insight could prove invaluable as Providence looks to improve its inside play.
Fans and analysts are already speculating about how Ewing’s influence might impact the Friars. “This could be a game-changer,” one Big East insider noted. “If Patrick Ewing is giving advice to Providence’s bigs, they’re going to be much tougher in the paint.”
With the Big East race shaping up to be competitive once again, English’s move to bring in a legend like Ewing shows his commitment to building a physical, skilled frontcourt that can compete at the highest level.
