Barbra Streisand Celebrates 26 Years of Marriage with James Brolin
Barbra Streisand and James Brolin are celebrating two special milestones in their enduring love story. On Monday, July 1, the iconic singer and actress marked their 26th wedding anniversary and the 28th anniversary of their first meeting with a heartfelt Instagram post.
Streisand, 82, shared a glamorous wedding photo from their 1998 nuptials, capturing a smiling Brolin, now 83, in a classic black tuxedo with his arm around Streisand, who wore a white, lacy off-the-shoulder wedding dress.
“28 years today since we met honey… and 26 years today since we married!” Streisand wrote, adding, “Love you. B ❤️.”
The couple first met in 1996 at a blind date dinner party. Streisand was 54, and Brolin was 56. Two years later, they tied the knot in a backyard ceremony at Streisand’s Malibu home.
In his emotional wedding speech, Brolin expressed his gratitude for finding love again with Streisand. Previously married to Jane Cameron Agee and Jan Smithers, Brolin said, “I can’t tell you how lucky I am that this would happen to me so late in life. Every night is a new adventure. Sleeping is a waste of time. I can’t wait to see [Streisand] again in the morning.”
Throughout the years, Streisand and Brolin have supported each other at various public events, from awards shows to movie premieres. In 2018, during their 20th wedding anniversary, Brolin shared his secret to a healthy, happy marriage: couples therapy.
“I do believe in counseling if anybody ever has a problem in their marriage,” he told *Entertainment Tonight*. “Bring in a referee, talk it over, and I swear to you, it will dispel by the end of the session, each time.”
Streisand echoed similar sentiments in 2021, telling *Variety*, “The secret is to listen carefully to your spouse. To be a good actor, you have to listen. To be a good person, you have to listen. To be a good marriage partner, you have to listen. Hear the other person. Agree to disagree.”
On their 22nd anniversary in 2020, amid the global pandemic, Streisand paid tribute to her husband on Instagram, writing, “There’s no one I’d rather be locked up with than you honey — can’t believe it’s been 24 years together!”
While both Streisand and Brolin have enjoyed successful independent careers for decades, Brolin has expressed a desire to work on a project with his wife, with him as an actor and her as a director. “We had two projects we read out loud a couple of times that she wanted to do. She wanted to direct both,” he told *AARP* magazine in June 2022. “I’m fine with it, but she keeps thinking I’m going to be a rascal to direct. I tell her, ‘No, I’m putty in every director’s hands.'”
Streisand and Brolin’s enduring love and mutual support continue to inspire fans, showcasing a partnership built on respect, communication, and shared joy.
