Leeds United Secure Signing of Nat Phillips from Liverpool
Leeds United have completed the signing of defender Nat Phillips from Liverpool for a fee of £5 million. The 27-year-old centre-back, who emerged from Liverpool’s youth system, joins Leeds after an extended period seeking consistent first-team football.
Phillips gained prominence during Liverpool’s 2020/21 season, stepping up during an injury crisis to make 20 appearances across all competitions. Despite his commendable performance, opportunities at Liverpool became limited, leading to loan spells at Bournemouth, Celtic, and Cardiff City.
Leeds United manager Daniel Farke, a long-time admirer of Phillips, expressed his satisfaction with the acquisition. “Nat is a solid defender with Premier League experience. He will add much-needed depth and stability to our backline,” Farke stated.
The transfer comes as Leeds reshuffles its defensive lineup. With the recent signing of Joe Rodon from Tottenham and the anticipated move of Ethan Ampadu to midfield, Phillips’ arrival fills a crucial gap. Veteran defender Liam Cooper’s expired contract and Charlie Cresswell’s move to Toulouse left Leeds in need of reinforcing their defense.
