Kevin Magnussen to Leave Haas Formula 1 Team at Season’s End
Kevin Magnussen, the veteran Formula 1 driver, will part ways with the MoneyGram Haas F1 Team at the conclusion of the 2024 season. The announcement was made Thursday by Magnussen and his team, marking the end of a seven-season tenure characterized by notable highs and lows.
“It’s been an incredible journey, seven seasons filled with both highs and lows and lots of big moments and fantastic memories, and I’d like to thank everyone at the team,” Magnussen wrote on his Facebook and Instagram accounts. “Racing has always been, and will always be, a part of who I am. I’m a racer to the very core of my soul, and I’m deeply grateful for everyone who has been a part of my Formula 1 career thus far.”
Currently ranked 16th in the 2024 driver standings, Magnussen is 250 points behind the leader, Max Verstappen. Despite the challenging season, he has secured two Top 10 finishes, including an impressive eighth-place run at last month’s Australian Grand Prix. Most recently, he finished 12th at the British Grand Prix on July 7.
Magnussen, 31, emphasized his commitment to finishing the season strong with Haas. “I plan to focus on giving everything I have to Haas for the rest of the season,” he stated, looking ahead to his participation in the Hungarian Grand Prix this Sunday at the Hungaroring in Mogyorod.
Magnussen’s best result in his 175 career starts came during his time with McLaren at the 2014 Australian Grand Prix, where he initially finished third but was later promoted to second due to a disqualification. He began his racing career in karting before moving up to Formula 1 and has also competed in the 2021 Grand Prix of Road America in Plymouth, Wisconsin.
After stints with McLaren and Renault, Magnussen first joined Haas in 2017, remaining with the team until 2020 before returning in 2022. His departure marks the end of a significant chapter for both the driver and the team.
As Magnussen looks forward to new opportunities, the Formula 1 community will keenly observe Haas’s next steps in securing a replacement and how the team will strategize for the upcoming seasons.
