Breaking: Waters Comes Under Heavy Criticism For Sydney Flops

Chaz Mostert Hunts Down Cam Waters, Will Brown for Sydney SuperNight Victory

Chaz Mostert has surged to second in the championship standings following a dominant performance in Race 16 of the Panasonic Air Conditioning Sydney SuperNight, overcoming Cam Waters and Will Brown to claim victory.

Mostert, driving for Walkinshaw Andretti United, executed a strategic two-stop pit strategy that allowed him to chase down and overtake both Waters and Brown in the final 11 laps. Starting from pole, Mostert initially passed Will Davison on lap 1 and then methodically worked his way up the field. His superior pace proved pivotal as he capitalized on a two-stop strategy to catch and pass the one-stoppers Waters and Brown.

With this win, Mostert has narrowed the championship gap to just 105 points behind leader Brown. The significant improvement in his standings follows a considerable 279-point deficit after the Darwin race. Broc Feeney, who led the championship in the early rounds, now trails Brown by 153 points, despite closing the gap to 78 points in Townsville.

Mostert praised his team’s efforts, saying, “Just a credit to the whole Walkinshaw Andretti United crew. We obviously rolled out a pretty good car and we kept chipping away at it. The race car was something pretty special around here. Tonight the car was better again, which is a real credit to the team.”

The race saw Mostert overtake Davison after his initial advantage. Davison, who held the lead through the first lap, slipped behind Mostert by Turn 6. As the race progressed, Mostert’s gap to Davison widened, and he eventually emerged seven seconds ahead after his pit stop.

The race was marked by a series of incidents and strategic pit stops, including a clash involving Matt Payne, Ryan Wood, and David Reynolds. Feeney, who struggled throughout the race, was relegated to 16th position, further impacting his championship hopes.

With the championship now tighter, Mostert heads to Symmons Plains with renewed momentum, aiming to continue his strong performances and close the gap to the leaders.
