Badiashile woeful as Chelsea embarrassed against Celtic – Blues second-half player ratings

Chelsea were comfortably beaten by Celtic in their second pre-season match of their tour of the United States.

Goals in the first-half from Matt O’Riley and Furuhashi Kyogo were added to by Luis Palma and Michael Johnston in the second period. Celtic thoroughly deserved the victory with the Blues absolutely poor in Notre Dame.

Christopher Nkunku grabbed a consolation goal from the penalty spot but it was a 90-or-so minutes to forget for Chelsea. Bobby Vincent rates those who featured in the second-half…

Robert Sanchez – Kept kicking the ball long. I’m not sure if that was what he was told to do but you cannot imagine Enzo Maresca would have advised him to do that. Not great in the second-half. 5

Reece James – Didn’t last long in the second-half. Not his best performance overall. 6.

Tosin Adarabioyo – Part of a really poor defensive line so I cannot rate him highly. However, I don’t think he was necessarily at fault for any of what happened. 5.

Benoit Badiashile – Poor in the first-half and then even worse in the second. A woeful mistake to allow Celtic to make it 3-0. 4.

Levi Colwill – Not a massive fan of him at left-back. I know he comes into a three-back in possession but feel like we’re not seeing the proper Levi Colwill there. 5.

Romeo Lavia – Progressive passing is very promising. He doesn’t always look sideways or behind like plenty of No.6s are guilty of. Came off on 66 minutes. 6.

Lesley Ugochukwu – Unable to kick on from what was an impressive showing in Santa Clara. Still some nice passes and a solid display, however. 5.

Christopher Nkunku – A quieter second period compared to the first. Still, he always looks a threat. Quite like him from the deeper position. Great for him to score. 7.

Noni Madueke – Great chance missed at the start of the half where he should have really struck it with his right foot. Better than the first-half, though, being a constant threat on the right-hand side. Lacked a cutting edge, though. 6.

Raheem Sterling – Really bright immediately after coming on. Unlucky not to score with his first touch, where the ball cannoned off the post. His performance then got worse, he became sloppy. Does well to win the penalty, though. 6.5.

Marc Guiu – So unfortunate not to score on about 50 minutes. His movement is so smart. Bright but not as involved as in the first-half. 6.

Substitutes

Malo Gusto – Did okay when coming on. 6.

Andrey Santos – A couple of nice moments. 6.

Tyrique George – N/A.
