Breaking: Crisis Rock Team Friars Over Announcement Of A/Coach

Providence College Men’s Basketball Promotes Corey Wright to Assistant Coach

Providence College Men’s Basketball Head Coach Kim English has announced the promotion of Corey Wright to assistant coach. Wright, who joined the Friars as a graduate assistant in May 2023, has quickly proven his value to the program.

“Corey has proved to be a valuable member of our staff over the last 16 months,” said English. “He has tremendous knowledge of the game and a strong desire to help the players improve. He has earned this promotion with his work ethic and dedication to the program. I am excited to see him grow and help us in our pursuit of championships.”

In his role as a graduate assistant, Wright was instrumental in various aspects of the team, including scouting, video analysis, player development, recruiting, and practice and game preparations. His extensive experience in youth basketball has provided him with a broad network of connections, enhancing his recruiting capabilities.

Before joining Providence College, Wright dedicated five years to developing young talent in New England, working as a basketball trainer, high school coach, middle school coach, and mentor. His deep ties to Friartown are personal, as his father, Corey Wright Sr., played for the Friars from 1996 to 1999 and helped the team reach the Elite Eight in 1997.

Wright’s own playing career includes stints with the Providence Sky Chiefs of the ABA, where he averaged double figures in scoring and contributed to the team’s East Regional ABA Championship in 2015. As a collegiate player, he competed at Long Island University and Lander University, earning all-conference honors and ranking second nationally in assists during his junior and senior years.

A native of New York City, Wright’s promotion marks a significant step in his coaching career as he continues to contribute to the Friars’ pursuit of basketball excellence.
