Setbacks Overcame Victory: James Fisher Out, Nathan Cleary pitch Tent With Knights

Panthers Overcome Early Setbacks to Dominate Dragons and Prepare for Knights Showdown

In a display of resilience and skill, the Penrith Panthers weathered an early challenge from the Dolphins in Round 20 and returned to their winning ways by outclassing the Dragons. The Panthers, currently eyeing the Newcastle Knights, are showing signs of their formidable form once again.

Star halfback Nathan Cleary has been instrumental in the Panthers’ resurgence, delivering a stellar performance that included a hat-trick in their impressive 46-10 victory over the Dragons. Cleary’s return from injury continues to bolster Penrith’s confidence as they aim for a strong finish to the season.

However, the victory was not without its setbacks. Prop James Fisher-Harris, who is set to join the Warriors, suffered a groin injury and is expected to be sidelined for a month. Additionally, fullback Daine Laurie was forced to leave the field in the 20th minute after a head clash with Dragons fullback Mat Feagai, resulting in Laurie failing his HIA and being ruled out for the upcoming match against the Knights.

The Panthers are making adjustments to their lineup to cope with these injuries. Lindsay Smith will step in for Fisher-Harris, with Matt Eisenhuth moving to the bench. With both Dylan Edwards (knee) and Daine Laurie unavailable, Isaiah Iongi is set to make his NRL debut at fullback. Luron Patea and Asu Kepaoa are listed as the 18th and 19th men, respectively.

The Newcastle Knights, coming off a bye, will be eager to rebound from their recent 30-14 home defeat to the Brisbane Broncos. The loss was compounded by a significant injury to Bradman Best, who sustained a hamstring injury. In response, the Knights have made strategic changes: Phoenix Crossland will replace Jackson Hastings at halfback, Jayden Brailey will start at hooker, and Dylan Lucas will shift to the centres to cover for Best. Adam Elliott, returning from a calf injury, will join the back row, while Jack Cogger is set to make an appearance off the bench. Tom Cant and Brodie Jones remain in the reserves.

As the Panthers prepare to face the Knights, fans can expect an intense clash as both teams strive to overcome their recent adversities and secure a crucial win.
